Based on testimonies from social workers and research organisation Frontline, Left My Desk follows Becca - played by Lost Watch co-founder Rianna Dearden - to the brink and back again in a story told with pace, pathos, music, colour and lashings of gallows humour under the direction of Almeida Theatre Resident Director Lucy Wray.

The play premiers at New Diorama Theatre from 29 May to 16 June 2018.

The backdrop for Left My Desk is a Britain where budgets across councils are at breaking point, making the already-difficult job of social work increasingly impossible.

Social Care is needed in every town, city and village across the UK; it's as integral as the police service and as oversubscribed as Accident and Emergency on a Friday night.

Demand is high, wages are low, and burnout is common.

Left My Desk puts a human face on this political football and gives a rare insight into life in one of the country's harshest professional environments.

Here's the trailer ...

About the company

Lost Watch formed in 2013 by Rianna Dearden, Olivia Hirst and Agnes Wild and have created 4 award-winning shows based on honest and gripping stories with no set rules of style or content. Left My Desk is their newest production.

Their previous shows Play for September, KATE, Goodstock and Flew The Coop have all gained critical acclaim and have toured nationally and internationally.

Lost Watch have been twice winners of the NSDF Emerging Artist Award, were BEST ENSEMBLE Offie Nominated in 2017 and New Diorama Theatre Resident Ensemble 2017/2018.

A show about caring.

“Really it would be cheaper for the tax payer if all the babies in care died and we paid for each one of them to have a horse-drawn funeral carriage”.

Becca leaves the office at 8.56am.

Uniform is waiting.

They speed across the city, blues and twos blaring, on the trail of a missing woman.

This is like a police drama!

Except Becca is a social worker, and they never put social workers in police dramas.

Budgets across councils are at breaking point, making a difficult job increasingly impossible.

Demand is high, wages are low, and burnout is common.

Based on research, interviews and testimonial, Left My Desk is a play about social care in England today, exploring the crisis unfolding throughout our system.
