Opening next Wednesday at The Bridge Theatre, Alan Bennett's new play is entitled Allelujah! and focuses on The Beth, an old fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital, serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, that is threatened with closure as part of an NHS efficiency drive.

A 25-strong cast bring this much-anticipated new play to life under the direction of Mr Bennett's long-term collaborator, Sir Nicholas Hytner.

The play is scheduled to run at The Bridge until 29 September 2018.

The BBC's Andrew Marr interviewed Mr Bennett earlier this week in advance of the play's upcoming press night and the seven minute interview is available in its entirity at this address.

Allelujah! is the tenth collaboration between Mr Bennett and Nicholas Hytner.

They first worked together on Bennett's adaptation of The Wind in the Willows for the National Theatre in 1990.

Then followed The Madness of King George III, The Lady in the Van and The History Boys, all of which were also seen on film, The Habit of Art, People and the double bill Untold Stories.

Look-out for reviews of the play from late Wednesday evening this coming week.
