A new production of Momma Golda, directed by Sarah Berger, and performed by Thelma Ruby and William Teller is to have a short run at the King's Head Theatre from 4 to 12 November 2018.

After being crowned 2017 Oldie of the Year and appearing in the first two series of Jack Dee's critically-acclaimed sitcom Bad Move, the ninety-three year old Thelma Ruby returns as Golda Meir in this renowned adaptation of William Gibson's Golda.

Adapted by Thelma Ruby and Peter Frye, Momma Golda is the story of Israel's first and only female Prime Minister - Golda Meir - otherwise known as 'the grandmother of the Jewish people.'

The show was performed all over the world by Ruby and Peter Frye for eight years from 1980 to 1988.

Thelma Ruby was born in Leeds, where her mother was a music hall child performer, billed as "Dainty Little Paula Ruby".

Ms Ruby trained as an actor in New York, and was a performer with ENSA during World War II.

She then moved into repertory theatre with Harry Hanson's Court Players before beginning a glittering West End career, including performing in Fiddler on the Roof alongside Topol in 1984, co-starring in Cabaret with Judy Dench in 1968 and King Lear with Michael Hordern in 1970.

Ms Ruby was married to Peter Frye in 1970, as detailed in their joint biography Double or Nothing, and first wrote and performed Momma Golda with him in 1980.

Director Sarah Berger is the producer and artistic director of the So and So Arts Club, the executive producer of the Women and War Festival, and recently directed Macbeth for the Kyrgyzstan State Academic Theatre.
