Synopsis

New York City, 1905, and an influx of immigration brings change and diversity into conflict with the strict social divides of race, religion and class.

African American seamstress Esther Mills uses the talents of her needle and thread to traverse these divides, but fears life will pass her by.

Lynn Nottage's acclaimed work pays tribute to the fight for independence, the desire for love and connection, and the courage and determination of those forgotten by history.
