Like other theatres in London, Park Theatre has been closed for over 2 months since 18 March.
And like all other theatres, the closure has put enormous pressure on the venue's financial resources.
The theatre, however, has had support from over 900 donors who responded to its appeals and have made contributions to the Park Life campaign which has already reached over 50% of its £100,000 target.
And there's more good news for the 7 year-old theatre with the announcement of a £35,000 award from Arts Council England's Emergency Support fund.
Artistic director, Jez Bond, said ...
"The response from the public at this time of crisis has been phenomenal and an incredible affirmation of the work we've done since opening seven years ago to establish our place in the local community.
There has been a genuine outpouring of love and determination to help us survive that has considerably softened the blow of having to close for the foreseeable future.
We feel grateful and fortunate to have been one of the organisations chosen to receive ACE funding at this time of crisis, but in reality it is still only a fraction of the investment needed from the government to ensure that the arts in this country survive the current pandemic."
The £100k target of the Park Life Campaign represents the financing needed to fund a 3 month reopening phase after the Government's furlough scheme ends and theatres are informed they can reopen.
But the theatre warns that, should reopening be delayed beyond the beginning of 2021, further significant funds would need to be raised.
In case you haven't seen it yet, here's Jez Bond talking about the theatre's predicament ...
