The Painkiller Project is a monthly playwriting competition which attracts a £150 prize for winning plays.

Each month, two plays are selected and released as podcasts on a fornightly basis.

If you're interested in submitting a play, the next submission window is between 29 June and 2 July and you'll find more information about making a submission on the Bitter Pill website.

The third in the Painkiller project podcasts is now available starring Miriam Margolyes in Amy Baty's short, The Last Manicure, a dark comedy that looks at need, desire and the brutality of growing old.

Harriet is 78 years old.

She gets her nails done every week so she can sit opposite Tien.

A beautician who is too young to mention.

When they unexpectedly find themselves alone, both women sense an opportunity but how will they make every second count?

The play is directed by Max Elton with sound by Piers Sherwood-Roberts and all episodes of The Painkiller Podcast are available here.
