For the past few weeks Islington's King's Head Theatre has been offering free daily online sessions.

The sessions are still free to everyone and, as usual, start at 1pm and .

Here's this week's schedule ...

TUESDAY 7 JULY SPOTLIGHT ON: PAPERGANG THEATRE

Clarissa Widya

Clarissa is Co-Founder and now, Artistic Director of Papergang Theatre.

They produce work that is informed by the East Asian experience within Britain and the East Asian diaspora, inspired by the desire to see that perspective on stage.

Clarissa leads the company as a producer.

Since Papergang Theatre's formation in 2013, Clarissa has facilitated writing workshops and R&Ds, and produced staged readings and scratch nights.

In 2018, Papergang Theatre became a charity and Clarissa worked on a rebrand with Associate Director, Kim Pearce before going on maternity leave.

A year later, Papergang Theatre returned with more socio-political projects: Tiananmen 30 (Omnibus Theatre, 2019); Invisible Harmony 无形的和谐 (Southbank Centre, 2019) and Freedom Hi 自由閪 (VAULT Festival, 2020), the latter winning VAULT Show of the Week.

This session will cover the development of Papergang Theatre, growing into a career and being a parent in the theatre industry.

THURSDAY 9 JULY DESIGNING FOR DIFFERENT GENRES & FORMS

Isabella Van Braeckel

Isabella is an award-winning, London-based Set & Costume Designer for performance, specialising in New Writing, Opera and Dance across Fringe Theatre and in the West End.

She has been a Jerwood Young Designer (Gate Theatre), long-listed for the Old Vic 12 and was featured in the UK Exhibit Staging Places at the Prague Quadrennial and the V&A.

Isabella's designs are inspired by close collaboration, bold visuals and textural exploration.

Her stunning design for our Spring production of Aida was due to premiere in May but unfortunately, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her previous design credits include: DUAL (VAULT Festival); The Dog Walker (Jermyn Street Theatre); Polarörnen (Teateri, Sweden); Burgerz (Hackney Showroom, Traverse Theatre & Tour); The Boys in the Band (Park Theatre, Vaudeville Theatre & Tour) and Eclipsed (Gate Theatre).

In this session, Isabella will be discussing the similarities and differences between designing for New Writing, Opera and Dance as well as routes into designing, her process and collaborations.
