Good news, and possibly some disappointment too, in the announcement that Sasha Regan's all-male The Pirates of Penzance is heading to the West End's Palace Theatre this December.
The good news is that the award-winning show is a real treat and as such is a more than a welcome addition to the still rather thin schedule of London shows coming up.
Writing about Sasha Regan's production back in 2019, ActDrop's Peter Brown described it as "brilliantly directed and unmissable" in his 5 star review.
Sadly, though, the show is only making the briefest of appearances at The Palace with just one performance on Sunday 13 December.
This all-male version has a lengthy and successful heritage, first appearing at Southwark's Union Theatre, winning Best Off-West End Production at The WhatsOnStage Awards in 2009.
It then transferred to Wilton's Music Hall for a 6-week run and sailed on to The Rose Theatre, Kingston before the soft-hearted pirates embarked on a tour of Australia culminating in a month-long run at Cate Blanchett's Sydney Theatre.
There was also a subsequent UK Tour in 2015 and another critically acclaimed run at Wilton's Music Hall in 2019.
There's bound to be huge interest in this show, so you'd be well-advised to grab tickets while you can.
