Final casting has been announced for a new production of Molière's The Misanthtrope - starring and directed by Off West End Awards Best Director nominee David Furlong.

The play will run at Camden People's Theatre from 19 June to 7 July, with performances in ...

English: 19 to 21 June, 29 & 30 June, 3 to 5 July 2018

French: 22 & 23 June, 26 to 28 June, 6 & 7 July 2018.

In an age in which 'alternative facts' and 'fake news' make headlines in newspapers and on TV news, Exchange Theatre reimagines Molière's satire on the 17th century French court - The Misanthrope - relocating it to a 21st century TV newsroom.

The play focuses on Alceste who despises the attitudes of his time, preferring to avoid flattery or deceit, and telling the truth no matter what the consequences.

Searching for genuineness against hypocrisy, special interests and treachery, in this version of the play he is a handsome news anchor in love with Célimene, a bright but slightly vain socialite and hard-living gossip columnist.

Costumed in modern dress and surrounded by high tech equipment, this production makes relevant this enduring classic as it strives to explore the idea of gossip, innuendo and ultimately fake news.
