Vault Festival kicks-off today with over 400 shows on offer.
One of the plays in this mamouth line-up is Alice Malseed's Jade City which will be at Vault Festival from 6 to 10 February.
Jade City has already enjoyed a run of sell-out shows for its premier at EastSide Arts Festival in Belfast, and is directed by Katherine Nesbitt and co-produced by Alice Malseed and View From Here.
Brendan Quinn plays Sas and Barry Calvert is Monty, two East Belfast lads whose friendship is explored in this hour-long piece of new-writing.
Using an original electronic score, rich language and powerful theatrical imagery, Jade City is a delicate and disarming examination of the zeitgeist issues of sexual assault, male mental health, alcoholism, class and male suicide.
Award-winning playwright Alice Malseed said ...
"It is going to be electrifying to see this play staged at Vault.
The work talks sensitively and delicately about a brutally damaging event in two men's lives, and explores aspects of masculinity and mental health which I believe affect many communities and individuals in Belfast."
Isabel Sharman, producer of View From Here added ...
"We are very excited to bring Jade City and the incredibly talented Alice Malseed to London.
Performing the show at Vault will give audiences a fantastic experience and is an ideal setting for this dark, intimate production."
Show listing information
Sas and Monty are trapped in this place and in their heads.
Their friendship orbits around a damaging and violent event from their pasts.
Their imaginative and playful 'game' is the only way they can process the mess they feel inside.
Jade City uses rich language and powerful theatrical imagery to explore male friendship and toxic masculinity.
The play talks sensitively about a brutally damaging event in their lives, and explores aspects of masculinity and mental health which affect many communities across Belfast, the UK and Ireland.
Against these big topics, and as a way to escape the mundanity and trauma of their lives, the men have created a game.
It is playful, childish, and allows them to explore their own lives and truths, to devastating effect.
