SIX extends in West End

London West End - Musicals

Good news for SIX fans as the show adds 11 extra weeks to its run at the Lyric before it returns to the Arts Theatre.

In spite of the government's announcement yesterday that the current lockdown will be replaced by the tier system from 2 December, London's theatres are still left wondering whether they can reopen.

The issue boils down to which tier London will be placed in after the full lockdown ends - if it's tier 3, then entertainment venues will be required to stay closed.

We won't know until Thursday 26 November which tiers different areas of England will be placed in - that's hardly very helpful for producers trying to schedule shows.

One of those affected is hit musical SIX which is currently due to open on Saturday 5 December at the West End's Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

If you've been following news about the show over the past few weeks, you'll already know that it is moving to the Lyric temporarily before returning to its more permanent home at the Arts Theatre.

Though there's still a big question mark hanging over the musical's start date at the Lyric, there's been some good news today as producers have announced an extension to the schedule which will provide an extra 11 weeks to the show's run at the Lyric.

That might seem something of a bold move in the current circumstances, but the show has garnered a massive army of fans and has become no less than a global phenomenon since its early days as a student production in a 100-seat room at Sduring the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

SIX producers Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes and George Stiles said ...

"We have been thrilled and overwhelmed by the response for tickets.

Audiences are obviously desperate to get back to the theatre.

We hope that after several false starts we will be able to proceed in London and Salford as planned."

Writer and co-director, Lucy Moss, promises the 'Queendom' that the new London production will be "the shiniest version of SIX yet!", so let's hope London escapes tier 3 come Thursday!
